We left for the hospital around 4:30 am on September 15th for our scheduled c-section(Our original due date was September 20th). After waiting for a bit, we were taken back to the prep room where I was "suited up" for surgery. It was all very surreal to me. Then I got the drugs and I remember thinking how much I liked them =)
We were taken into the operating room and a whole team of people came in to get Charlie out. At one point, I looked over and Kris was sitting down next to me facing the wall with his head down. The nurses tried giving him oxygen, but it didn't help, so they took him out of the operating room. That's Kris...everything always has to be about him =)
Charlie was born at 7:21 am, but I only got a glimpse of her at the time. I had to wait until we got to the recovery room to really see her. When I first arrived there, Kris was holding her. They gave her to me, despite all my shaking from the drugs, and she instantly searched out my boob to try feeding - it was very cool. Charlie weighed 6 lbs. 3oz. and was 19 inches tall - the exact same size as Ella. She had lots of brown hair, dark blue eyes, and really skinny, really long arms and legs.
We got a little quality time in recovery before they took us to our room. We spent the rest of the day just staring at Charlie and calling, texting, facebooking everyone to tell them the good news. After school, Ella came with my mom to meet her little sister. She had a cough, so she had to wear a mask every time she came to the hospital. In fact, on one visit, she was coughing so much she threw up in the hospital McDonald's.
